The Beyond Dark Story
From Idea To A Household Brand Name

Beyond Dark is our own brand that we created in 2009. We began the project so that we could fully understand from the inside what our clients experience from the beginnings of an idea to getting their product to market.

The idea came to Kevin after reading his daughter-in-law’s university dissertation which focused on health benefits of certain foods including dark chocolate. After undertaking research Kevin realised that there was a gap in the market for antioxidant rich dark chocolate, so he began the journey to make his own.

After sampling lots of different chocolate recipes (it’s a hard life but someone has to do it!) Kevin found a co-manufacturer who could produce the chocolate to Kevin’s recipe and consistently produce the quality and quantity that would be required.

Kevin drilled down a target market, worked out the financials and began to design a brand identity which would attract the attention of the target market. He also sourced a co-packer who would handle the chocolate and ship it out to the various retailers.

After many hours on the phone, Kevin managed to secure listings in Sainsbury’s and Holland & Barrett. 5 years on and Beyond Dark is stocked in shops nationwide including Harrods, and 2500+ independent retailers.

We have also won several marketing awards for our #momentsofpleasure online campaign, won ‘Women’s Health & Fitness’ Gold Award for the best chocolate brand of 2014, been nominated a ‘Cool Brand’ by Cool Brands and reached the finals in the Grocer Gold Awards.
